Travel training
Lots of groups at Assist gradually help people to learn to travel safely and more independently. For those who are able to progress to more independent travelling, Assist has its own travel training team!
The Travel Training team develop travel route plans specifically built around the individual and the route they wish to travel. The step by step travel training assessment used was developed by an occupational therapist and is used to measure progression and manage risks as they occur. Travel training is person centered and members are not under any pressure to meet deadlines, we give each member as much time as they require.
As well as the practical support we offer, we go through Community questions with the individual where we run through different scenarios focusing on different areas such as travel on foot, bus travel, safety in the community and travelling safely during Covid.
By providing travel training we are supporting members to access their community, day service providers, work/voluntary placements and events with family and friends
